Melbourne singer-songwriter and activist Les Thomas will be launching his “Survivor’s Tale” album at the Petersham Bowling Club on Sunday, November 9 with supports from Darren Cross, Lisa Caruso and Not Good With Horses.
Les Thomas is a Melbourne-based singer-songwriter, activist and storyteller in the tradition of people like Woody Guthrie, Steve Earle and Billy Bragg, telling stories through songs and addressing injustices of present-day Australia with an underlying message of hope.
His album ‘Survivor’s Tale’ has been described as “an incredible collection of songs” (Denise Hylands, 3RRR) recorded with an exceptional line-up of musicians including Jeff Lang, Ashley Davies, The Stillsons and more.
Having taken the songs as far afield as Nashville and Seattle, this will be Les’s first chance to share them with a Sydney audience, so be sure to make it along.
“Les Thomas doesn’t simply sing a story about a stranger, he learns their story, helps give them a voice and uses the medium of music as advocacy. Currently a lot of people get named and promoted as the next great folk artist, but it is people like Les Thomas that keep the origins of folk forefathers alive and true.” — Lauren Duiker, The Orange Press
